Stories

We invite you to read stories about the ministries and lives of our sisters, associates, partners, dear neighbors and others in our community.

Reflections from Peru

Lilianis, her husband, and her children left Venezuela out of necessity, not because they wanted to.  Economic and political life was in crisis in their country and they could not support themselves as a family.

Partners for the future

As we look at the present and into the future, we celebrate our ministries and work that have been going on for years as well as our new, exciting structures and partnerships. We offer a few examples, amongst many, in the areas of education, healthcare, service and work at the border.

Celebrating 152 years of ministry in Tucson

In 1870, seven brave sisters trekked from Missouri to Arizona to minister to the dear neighbor. After a delay of two years, the 150th Anniversary of the Trek of the Seven Sisters was held on May 29 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Tucson, Arizona.

Reflections from Afghanistan

I learned not just about how an Afghani family lives, what foods they eat, how they arrange their furniture, why they leave their shoes outside on the porch and how marriages are performed, I also received a warm welcome from each family member when I entered the home. In short, I felt very comfortable being with an Afghani family of the Muslim faith.

Making Changes to Care for Creation

On November 11, 2021, our congregation publicly committed to join Pope Francis and the universal Catholic Church on a seven-year journey to ecological conversion through the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. Efforts towards this commitment have been in the works since 1997, and the journey continues.

Justice Promoters Response to Buffalo

As Catholic Sisters and New York residents we are united with our brothers and sisters in Buffalo as they grieve the loss of ten innocent victims to the sin of white supremacy. The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas have released a statement which expresses our sorrow and outrage at the needless tragedy. With the permission of the Sisters of Mercy we the Justice Promoters of LCWR Region 2 share this statement with you.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
