Reflection

Giving thanks to God

 Los Angeles Province

The Los Angeles Province Fall DESIGNS magazine will be in the mail soon! The theme this season is “The Power of the Present Moment.”

I reached out to many of our sisters and associates and received many beautiful reflections of their experience with how to get themselves into the present moment. We were not able to fit all these pearls of wisdom in the magazine, so I want to highlight them here to help each of us try on different ways of getting oneself alert to the present moment. This one is from Sister Claudia Wong, CSJ:

Moments can be precious interstices of life like sunshine though trees.  Some moments shine with awe and gratefulness, while others are darkened by sadness and disappointments.

Every day I deliberately pause throughout by activities and ask myself, “What am I doing here?”

In these quiet moments, my mind seems to block the wisdom behind the shadows of my existence. At other times, I am enlightened by the sense of the holy like the gentle trade winds through the palm trees. How can I not remember God’s Providence that has never let me down. And so with moments of joy, I continue to give thanks to the God of my interstices of light.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
