Reflection

Experiencing the moment through Dance

 Los Angeles Province

The Los Angeles Province Fall DESIGNS magazine will be in the mail soon! The theme this season is “The Power of the Present Moment.”

Many of our sisters and associates sent in beautiful reflections of their experience with how to get into the present moment. We were not able to fit all these pearls of wisdom in the magazine, so we are highlighting them here.

Mary Schneider, CSJ

This one is from Sister Mary Schneider, CSJ:

It seems to me that what I have learned and practice during my International Association of Creative Dance zoom classes each Saturday morning gives me some insight into being in the present moment.  As we gather we acknowledge each other making a connection. Our focus then becomes our own bodies preparing them to become instruments of creativity.  When we engage with others through dance “hiding self view” on Zoom which hides our own picture, helps us to focus on relating to each other, to dance together, leading and following, aware of what the dance needs. Life and prayer can learn from this: acknowledge what is happening, what is going on, take time to tune into our bodies through breathing, forgetting about ourselves in order to enter into the experience of the moment.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
