Ann Hammer

Ann Hammer is the Congregational Justice Ministry Director for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, collaboratively works with and engages sisters, associates, agrégées and partners in mission to respond to contemporary justice challenges and foster the common good for the dear neighbor without distinction. Ann has more than 25 years of experience in ministry and formation, including serving as the Director of Social Outreach for the Western Vicariate of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Before that, she taught scripture, Catholic Social Teaching and women’s and gender studies at St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis, where she also became an associate in 2021.

As we enter Advent, the season of waiting and listening, the first Advent candle represents hope. Throughout this Advent, we are going to focus on four themes of mindfulness, starting with mindful spending.

The 28th annual Mass at the border took place on November 1 in El Paso, Texas. This Eucharistic celebration brings together communities in Texas, Mexico and New Mexico to pray for migrants.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
