Remembering Sister Veronica Jones, CSJ

 Los Angeles Province

September 9, 1929 – June 5, 2025

Veronica Jones, CSJ

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Veronica Jones, CSJ, who died peacefully on June 5, 2025, at St. John of God Retirement Home in Los Angeles.

Veronica was born on a farm near Sioux City, Iowa, on September 9, 1929. She was the youngest of four children, with two sisters and one brother. When she was four, the family moved to Sioux City, into an “Irish ghetto” immersed in the Catholic faith.

After completing one year of college at San Diego State, Veronica returned home and graduated from Iowa State University. In 1953, at the age of 23, Veronica entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet community in Los Angeles.

Sister Veronica’s years of service found her in a variety of ministries, first as an elementary school teacher, principal and librarian, and later as a pastoral associate. She was a gifted counselor and utilized her expertise in counseling and psychotherapy in both private practice and as a school therapist.

Most recently, Sister Veronica has been a joyful, positive presence in the retirement community at St. John of God and at Holy Family. She possessed an ability and skill to be present to others in conversation, support, listening and giving of her time and energy. Her natural abilities were enhanced by her education as a psychotherapist, a ministry she truly enjoyed.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Los Angeles Province, 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles, CA 90049 or donate online.

May our gracious God now grant her everlasting peace and joy in company with the saints.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
