Patricia Overlock, CSJ

Sister Patricia Overlock died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. John of God Retirement Center in Los Angeles.

Sister Pat was born in Tucson, Arizona on Februayr 8, 1926. Following her father’s death, her mother moved with her to Los Angeles. Sister Pat graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1944. After attending college in Washington, D.C., she entered the community of the Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1947.

For the first 30 years of her religious life, her ministry included teaching piano, organ, violin, choral music and Spanish in our California and Tucson, Arizona high schools. She also taught summer classes at Mount Saint Mary’s College. Her background in music was impressive, and greatly enhanced daily liturgies at Carondelet Center.

Kindly and tranquil by nature, Sister Pat could give her opinion frankly, without dictating behavior. She enjoyed crocheting, TV sports and reading. Pat will be missed for her willingness to be a part of community. One especially notable quality was her spiritual resilience. This quality found roots in her sense of spirituality and prayerfulness, her beliefs and her outlook on life.

May she rest in peace.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
