Remembering Sister Margaret Anne Vonderahe, CSJ

 Los Angeles Province

July 26, 1932 – December 15, 2021

Margaret Ann Vonderahe, CSJ

Our beloved Sister Margaret Anne Vonderahe, CSJ died peacefully on the evening of December 15, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. Sister Margaret Anne wrote of her life, “I am deeply grateful for a lifetime of God’s loving gifts both great and small.” She was born and raised in Torrance, California. Following graduation from St Mary’s Academy, she entered community in 1950. Her years in ministry were devoted to education at all levels. She also served in formation, as assistant director of novices and as postulant director.

Sister Margaret Anne received degrees in education, English, administration, counseling, and pastoral care. She described ministering in pastoral care at hospitals in Tucson, Arizona as “the final gift of my life, a spiritual ministry.”

In 2015, she joined the Los Angeles Province‘s Holy Family Community to begin yet another ministry offering prayer and witness. As her energy and interests allowed, she participated in activities with the sisters, became a Vitas Hospice volunteer, and in her own quiet, personal way, she warmly greeted all she encountered.

Margaret lived with a grateful heart for the gifts God gave her, her varied opportunities in ministry, those who ministered with her and her family who were so much a part of her life. May she now rest in peace freed of all that hampered her physically in the last months.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
