Joan Henehan, CSJ

Sister Joan Henehan, CSJ died peacefully at noon on Sunday, August 11 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Joan and her three sisters were born in Chicago, and her family moved to San Diego in 1939. Joan followed her sisters to the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. Following her graduation in 1955, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet community.

Joan’s education included a bachelor of arts degree from Mount St. Mary’s College. She was awarded master’s degrees in theology and in applied spirituality from the University of San Francisco.

Her professional background began as an elementary school teacher for nine years, a secondary teacher and then a college theology instructor. At Mount St. Mary’s College, she was also an assistant professor of religious studies and chair of the Religious Studies Department for 11 years, serving at both campuses. She served in several administrative positions in vice provincial and congregational leadership.

Joan ministered with a generous and gracious spirit through instruction, leadership, spiritual direction and pastoral presence. She was a generous giver and gracious receiver of God’s life.
