Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Therese Chaperone, who passed away on September 28, 2022, at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 90 years of age.
Sister Therese was born on January 19, 1932, in Big Bay, Michigan, to parents Edward P. and Letitia (Aird) Chaperone. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1949 and was received into the novitiate in 1950 as Sister Anne Letitia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in speech education from Fontbonne College in 1959.
Throughout her 45-year teaching career, Sister Therese taught in several schools throughout the United States. In Missouri, she taught in St. Louis at St. Rita Grade School (1952-56) and St. Luke the Evangelist Grade School (1956-61); in Ste. Genevieve at Valle Grade School (1981-83); and in Kansas City at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grade School (1983-85).
In Georgia, she was in Atlanta at Sacred Heart Grade School (1961-63) and in Marietta at St. Joseph Grade School (1963).
She taught in Michigan at Sacred Heart Grade School in L’Anse (1963-1966) and at St. Peter Grade School in Marquette (1973-1974).
From 1966-1973, Sister Therese taught at several schools in Hawaii on the island of Oahu: St. Therese Grade School in Honolulu, St. Joseph Grade School in Waipahu and St. Anthony Grade School in Kailua.
In Illinois, she taught in Chicago at St. Viator Grade School many different times (1974-1978; 1980-1981 and 1985-1995 {substitute from 1996-1997}).
She also taught in Minnesota at Holy Redeemer Grade School in Marshall (1978-1979) and in Oklahoma at St. Joseph Grade School in Muskogee (1979-1980).
In 1997, Sister Therese served our community at Nazareth Living Center as a residential care assistant. She retired in 2012, and since 2021, resided at Nazareth Living Center carrying out her ministry of prayer and presence.
The funeral mass will be held October 10 at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129
