Patricia Moore, CSJ

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Patricia Moore, who died peacefully on December 1, 2025, at St John of God Care Center in Los Angeles.

Sister Pat was the second child and only girl in her family with five children. Her dad served in the military and as a result, the family moved often. By the time she was 15, she had lived in 18 different houses and attended six elementary schools. She attended Bishop Conaty High School in Los Angeles and graduated in 1957.

Sister Pat was received into the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in March 1958. At the time of her 60th Jubilee, she reflected, “I have been called by and am grateful to an immensely generous God.” She served in a variety of ministries but was never defined by the work she did, but who she was becoming before God. She found an interior place of honesty, and the freedom for transformation.

In her years of retirement, she found ways to quietly assist others and to support them. Sister Pat maintained an active life at St. John of God Care Center. She rarely missed a visit to feed the cats daily, attend her book clubs or share a meal with her sisters. She appreciated her many doctors who supported her desire to keep moving on with life, despite her health struggles. She was a great communicator by phone and stayed in touch with family, friends and Conaty classmates. She will be especially missed by the community of St. John of God, including residents and the Hospitaller Brothers.

Pat shared a spirit of love, gratitude and a great smile with all she met. May she rest in peace.

Sister Pat is my aunt and I love her so much. I am so so sad to learn of her passing, but I’m also happy for her that she is at home with our Father in heaven. She was inspirational to me throughout my life, and we always had fun when we were together. She was soft, sweet, generous, intelligent and had a sly sense of humor. Thank you to all the Sisters for being such an amazing family to her for most of her life.

We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
