Obituary

Remembering Sister Patricia Haire, CSJ

Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

September 24, 1928- January 26, 2026

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Patricia Haire, who died peacefully on January 26, 2026 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Patricia Haire was born in Los Angeles, the third in her family of five children. Pat described her early years in the family as happy times. All the Haire children except one attended St. Anselm School.

During her high school years at Bishop Conaty High School, Pat met the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She entered our community and received the habit in March 1947.

Most of her ministerial years were spent in teaching. She taught in all grades; in most elementary schools, she taught piano, violin, music and the choir. During her final years in teaching, she studied and earned a Ph.D. in psychology. She was one of five sisters who volunteered to go to Gulu in Africa, where she counseled children and teenagers.

When Sister Pat returned from Africa, she was missioned to San Bernardino, California. Her primary ministry was counseling. She was asked to volunteer to be the chaplain for San Bernardino County’s Sheriff’s Department. She really enjoyed her time in that role—especially wearing the uniform and riding in the helicopter.

Sister Pat formed lifelong relationships wherever she served and leaves many friends.

Service arrangements will be shared when they are available.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Los Angeles Province, 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles, CA 90049 or donate online.

May she rest in peace.

Rest in peace, Aunt Pat. Thank you for your example of almost 80 years of service to your community and the community at large. I appreciate how much every member of your family meant to you. I am sure that you are rejoined with many family members and it’s comforting to know that you are there now to intercede for us. Xoxo Jenny, Terry, Sandy, Kiera

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
