Mary Rose Fox, CSJ

May 6, 1948 – February 3, 2025

Sister Mary Rose Fox, CSJ died peacefully at the Teresian House in Albany, New York, on February 3, 2025.

The daughter of John J. Fox and Clara Lombardi of Catskill, New York, she graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1966. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, professing her lifelong religious vows in 1969.

Sister Mary Rose began her ministry on the staff of St. Joseph’s Provincial House in Latham, New York. In 1973, having earned a degree in library science from Maria Regina College in Syracuse, New York, she began serving as a librarian at Rome Catholic High School in Rome, New York. In 1987, Sister Mary Rose returned to the Provincial House to minister in the personnel office. After retiring in 2019, she moved in 2023 to Teresian House.

In her ministry as a librarian and personnel administrator, Sister Mary Rose demonstrated her competence very well. However, what her Sisters remember most is not only her ability but also happiness when asked to help fill a need or solve a problem. When no one else could get the information or assistance needed, Mary Rose always managed to do so. Her ability to respond to the needs of others always brought her the greatest happiness.

Sister Mary Rose maintained close relationships, sharing her life and spirituality with both her dear cousins and her religious sisters. All remember traveling with her to or watching with her on television her lifelong love, a New York Yankees game. When she retired to the Teresian House, Mary Rose generously donated her prized Yankee memorabilia to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Mary Rose is survived by her cousins who have been so faithful to her, both those in Coxsackie and those who live at a distance. Her parents are deceased, but she will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Wake services for Sister Mary Rose will take place on Monday, February 10 at St. Joseph’s Provincial House with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Provincial House.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
