Remembering Sister Barbara Joseph Wilson, CSJ

Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

November 17, 1931- February 12, 2026

Barbara Joseph Wilson, CSJ

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Barbara Joseph Wilson, who died peacefully on February 12, 2026 at St. John of God Care Center in Los Angeles.

Sister Barbara Joseph was born in Los Angeles and attended St. John Chrysostom grade school and St. Mary’s Academy. She was part of a close-knit and supportive family. In her words, “My family has always been there for me in all my activities.”

As a youngster, Barbara Joseph loved to swim—for joy and in competition. She said, “Swimming proved to be my lifesaver; when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, swimming kept my muscles working.”

She was a dedicated teacher and administrator in both elementary and high school for many years. She also served as Development Director for the former Los Angeles Province.

As Sister Barbara Joseph’s mobility became more difficult, she joined the Holy Family Community. Barbara has lived at St. John of God Care Center since August of 2021, enjoying her surroundings, participating in activities and often revisiting her place of ministry. She has been a delightful, humorous presence among us.

Funeral services for Sister Barbara Joseph will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Chapel at Carondelet Center, 11999 Chalon Rd. in Los Angeles. Watch via livestream.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Los Angeles Province, 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles, CA 90049 or donate online.

May our gracious God grant our dear Sister Barbara a reward for her willingness to serve with joy and whole-hearted dedication wherever she was needed.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
