The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Louis Province is a dynamic community of Catholic sisters and associates, who are focused on faith and social justice. They live and work to bring Jesus’ mission of love and unity to all people by responding to the needs of the world.
The province motherhouse stands on the very grounds in the Carondelet neighborhood of St. Louis where the first Sisters of St. Joseph arrived from France in 1836 to begin their American ministry. Most other Sisters of St. Joseph in the United States can be traced back to these early sisters and this fertile ground.
After decades of serving as leaders in the ministries of education and healthcare, the sisters expanded into social services and justice issues. Today, the sisters serve those on the margins without distinction and use their collective voice to make systemic change in areas such as racism, migration and care for creation.
You will find sisters and associates from the St. Louis Province not only in the St. Louis region but in other areas around the country as well. The sisters work in partnership with religious and lay people alike to accomplish their Gospel work. The province motto, “Together … we are more” speaks to the value of relationships and the power of unity in making change in today’s world.
