Keep the pressure on the UN for a global plastic pollution treaty

Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet

A huge room full of people sitting in rows of chairs and counters. Six people sit at a long table on the stage facing the crowd. One speaker appears on a giant screen at the front.

At the same time that we reduce our plastic consumption as individuals and as a congregation, our sisters continue to advocate for system solutions to cut back on plastic production globally. The United Nations is advancing this issue, and we are following their work closely.

As part of the Congregations of the Sisters of St Joseph Non-Governmental Organization at the United Nations (CSJ UN NGO), we have been represented during the negotiating process for the plastic treaty.

We encourage everyone to contact their country’s lead negotiator for the plastics treaty. Urge them to continue pushing for meaningful systemic change.

Those in the United States can use this form to sign on to our letter to Larke Williams, the lead plastic pollution negotiator for the United States.

About us

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
