Patty Chang, CSJ was received into the congregation in 1982 after earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Hawai`i. She later received a master’s degree in religious education from the University of San Francisco and an advanced certification in gerontology from the University of Hawai`i. Her ministry experience includes serving as a Director of Parish Religious Education, a Campus Minister and Records & Admissions Coordinator at Chaminade University of Honolulu and an Administrator for Kupuna Care. Within the congregation, Sister Patty has been Treasurer for the Hawai`i Vice Province, a member of the Vice Province Leadership Team and a Healthcare Coordinator. Most recently, she coordinated healthcare for all Sisters of St. Joseph in Hawai`i and continues to minister as a resource for the congregation’s associates (‘ohana).
Advent is a time of hopeful anticipation as it precedes Christmas. If we allow it, Advent can be a transformative time, when we make the conscious choice to be still to open our eyes, ears and heart to see, hear and experience God in the lives of those we encounter, in creation, in our own very self.
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are a congregation of Catholic sisters. We, and those who share our charism and mission, are motivated in all things by our profound love of God and our dear neighbors. We seek to build communities and bridge divides between people. Since our first sisters gathered in 1650, our members have been called to “do all things of which women are capable.” The first sisters of our congregation arrived in St. Louis, Missouri in 1836, and we now have additional locations in St. Paul, Albany, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Japan and Peru. Today, we commit to respond boldly to injustice and dare to be prophetic.
