Throughout Advent, we’ll be sharing reflections on the day’s readings written by a few of our Sisters. Each will share something she is thankful for during this season of preparation, that is, her Advent Appreciation. Share your own #AdventAppreciation with us on Facebook or Twitter!

Today’s Advent Appreciation: Comfort

December 12, 2017 – Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent

Read today’s scriptures

by Sister Zaida Peréz

We see God’s self-revelation through women and men of all ages, especially through great biblical figures.

Zechariah 2:14-17

Through the mouth of the prophet, God announces “I am coming to dwell in your midst.”

What a God, so close to the beloved, acting in the midst of the people, forgiving, collaborating, consoling!

Zechariah encourages us, “Sing and rejoice, daughter Sion! Celebrate the God who is with you.” You can experience God’s strength in your desire to give yourself to others, giving your time, your knowledge, your possessions in the service of others.

Psalm: Judith 13: 18b – 19

Judith trusted in God. God responded to the need of the people through her. In this total openness to God she experienced the strength, confidence and wisdom that showed her what to do. She experienced interior peace and serenity, signs of the presence of God in her moment of putting her discernment into action.

Thus she was able to advance the liberation of her people.

Gospel: Lk 1:26-38

Mary of Nazareth accepts God’s invitation with total confidence and says: “Let it be done unto me according to your will.” What is your fiat?

Sister Zaida lives in Peru. Here is her reflection in the original Spanish:
